The Thicket of Diversity is a project by the Big Thicket Association that takes scientific researchers and teams them up with citizen scientists to identify and catalogue different groups of plants and animals found within the Preserve. Participants learn about what kind of mushrooms are found in the woods of the Big Thicket and participate in photography workshops. There were hands-on activities for the whole family, guest speakers, photography exhibits, and trips into the Preserve with the scientists. Conservation Department staff took part in the festivities on June 14th by running an Amphibian Conservation booth during the day and leading an Amphibian Bio-Blitz walk in the evening. Paul Crump, Amphibian Conservation Programs Manager at the Houston Zoo, also gave a presentation on Amphibian and Reptile Diversity in the Big Thicket.
