Amphibian Awareness Day

On June 27th and 28th of 2008 the Conservation Department, in celebration of the Year of the Frog, held its first ever Amphibian Awareness Weekend! The fun began on Friday night when we hosted an Amphibian Monitoring Workshop at the Brown Education Center. In the workshop participants learned about some of our native amphibian residents, became familiar with their calls and learned how they could help amphibians locally. We took a night walk on zoo grounds and around the Hermann Park lake. The excitement leapt on Saturday, June 28th when we had Amphibian related booths in front of the Reptile House with Conservation information, activities and presentations scheduled throughout the day. Kids made toad abodes, there were frog fabulous presentations by the Education staff and live native amphibians!
